Roller Coaster Tycoon Deluxe Game Review for PC

Roller Coaster Tycoon Deluxe Game

Rollercoaster Tycoon Deluxe Edition – A Variation on a Thrilling Theme

A Grand Experience

You’d be mad to think that you could make weekly visits to theme parks and ride rollercoasters all day long without suffering some sort of medical problems, not to mention financial ones. That’s why the good gaming god invented computer games, and Rollercoaster Tycoon Deluxe is a game of that very type. The original Rollercoaster Tycoon was a grand experience that allowed you control of your own theme park as well as the rides and attractions that are required to make it successful. This was a perfect game for rollercoaster enthusiasts, and Rollercoaster Tycoon Deluxe is here to add in additional scenarios in order to help expand the experience for players.

Tycoon or Tinkerer

If you haven’t yet had the pleasure of dabbling with any of the Rollercoaster Tycoon series, they are all essentially fine examples of management simulators - and a great deal more impressive than the usual suspects like Theme Park for iOS - , with the subject matter being a theme park and the aim? Well that’s really up to you. I mean this in the sense that in this Deluxe edition you can take the game very seriously if you wish: it has provisions for serious players such as the ability to play through a staggering 70 different scenarios, each of which take place at a different park. So you can definitely work your way from your average Trevor, Dick, or Harry into a full-on tycoon with a successful park.

The other option for players in this game is to simply have a casual experience, focusing more on the rollercoasters themselves than developing a theme park that will make you a millionaire (in the game of course). If you decide to play the game this way, you can enjoy focusing on creating your very own rollercoaster creations, choosing from a nice selection of rollercoaster types (taken from real life of course). So this game really can be a different experience that moulds to your preferences depending on what they may be.

Serious Content

The original Rollercoaster Tycoon had a nice whack of content for players to be getting on with in the form of different parks (and therefore scenarios) for you to transform into success stories. The Deluxe version doesn’t change up the gameplay in any serious way, but rather introduces two different expansion packs that each contain a butt-load of extra scenarios. Loopy Landscapes and Corkscrew Follies/Added Attractions are the extra packs that differentiate the deluxe from the regular Rollercoaster Tycoon. Bear in mind that these packs are in addition to the already diverse range of parks that even include the ability to manage real-life parks.

Here at Coastercrazy.co.uk, the focus is all about the rollercoasters, and Rollercoaster Tycoon Deluxe’s attention to detail by including pretty much every type of rollercoaster you can think of is one of the reasons this game is being reviewed in the first place. The game allows you to build everything from an Air-Powered Vertical Coaster to Inverted Coasters, Mine Trains, Inverted Wild Mouse, Steel Corkscrew, and even the more traditional examples such as Wooden Crazy Rodent Roller Coasters, classic Wooden Coasters, and a great deal more.

In addition to rollercoasters, there are also thrill rides like 3D Cinemas and Go-Karts, as well as the usual things you’d expect at the park to bring in revenue – water rides (see Alton Towers’ Congo Rapids for an example), and shops and stalls for example.

Retrollercoasters

Rollercoaster Tycoon Deluxe’s appeal also goes beyond its content and the management-style gameplay: the aesthetics and design are also a huge factor to consider when rating this game. This isn’t a modern game with slick graphics remember. In fact, you’ve got some pretty old-school looking aesthetics, but there’s no dimension where this is a bad thing.

When games like Sim City move from basic, pixelated-looking landscapes to hyper-refined works of 3D art, they sort of lose their appeal a little bit. Rollercoaster Tycoon Deluxe is a wonder from a previous era of gaming that warms the cockles of the heart when playing it. The colourful rollercoasters; the little patrons that go about their business at the parks; even the little tiny puddles of vomit from people that have gone a bit crazy on your wildly-designed rides – it all adds to the visual appeal and it couldn’t be more delightful to see.

So if you’re after what is probably one of, if not the best rollercoaster games in existence, it’s going to have to be Rollercoaster Tycoon Deluxe.
